Starting With Yoga

This week I made the decision to resume my yoga practise after many months. I may have also had a gentle push from a couple of my lovely friends. It’s crazy the mental limitations I put on myself to not start sooner.  When I’m feeling healthier, when I’ve lost a few more kilos, when I’ve got more time and so on.  I am I realise a creature of habit, I struggle to embrace change quickly. Once my previous yoga instructor who ran a class at a local club moved, I just stopped, looking for a new instructor or new venue just wasn’t in my game plan, it was too hard, too much change, or so I thought. I could really kick myself for allowing this amazing practise to cease for so long, or I could learn from it and embrace all the wonderful benefits and embrace change moving forward.

Starting again this week has made me see that it was indeed crazy that I just stopped something I enjoyed so much.  I am already loving my practise, and all the mind, body and spirit benefits. Yoga is a whole practise and makes me feel fabulous!

Although my body has remembered many of the poses, man my muscles sure have not remembered yet!  I am sore to say the least, and in muscles I forgot I had, so lots of baths with magnesium and lots of protein shakes to aid muscle recovery for me. Again I could kick myself here for stopping and losing some of the physical benefits I had gained and for having to start over, however I won’t, because that’s not what yoga is all about. Yoga is about nurturing and loving your body and being grateful for all it can do for you now, and all it will be able to do in the future.

So, my new game plan;  I am making the most of every class and learning to love the mind-body connection and how powerful they both are.

I am nourishing my body with good food, and helping my muscles recover with daily after class smoothies (see recipe below adapted from my yoga loving friend) and evening baths that are simply lush.

Lesson learnt, embrace change, and do what makes you feel good and reap all the incredible benefits.

Stay well and grateful
